In our view, this reporter completely ignores the fact that the South Street Seaport Museum (SSSM) occupies a large part of Schermerhorn Row, mainly the upper floors. Howard Hughes Corporation (HHC) did not take over the waterfront, as SSSM also occupies Pier 16. For HHC to offer Schermerhorn Row for “affordable housing” in a building preserved and restored by millions in federal, state and private funds, in a building they do not control, is nothing short of obscene.
